Listen to your body

As we grow older, our bodies change. The way it changes depends on how it was used over the years.

We need our bodies to move around and fulfil our years on earth. We need it to function and carry out activities of divine significance that will echo in the sands of time.

So we can effectively refer to our as bodies as moving machines.

But machines do break down, get old, become obsolete and be out of use.

How long you get to remain on this plane partly depends on how you care for, protect, value and use your body. Once the body breaks down, then activities slow down or come to a halt.

So it is wise to understand your frame and pace. Our bodies are not wired to do similar things. Some are delicately wired, like porcelain pieces. While others are made for the rough ride.

Above all, take care of your body. Eat healthy and not junk. The effect of a life of junk eating will start to tell on you as you hit the fourth stairs.

Do light exercises. They are great for your limbs, joints and bones as well as give you a general sense of well-being.

Drink a lot of water. It flushes out toxins.

Cut on your intake of junk drinks like Coca-Cola, sprite, and the rest of them. They are the number 1 poison.

Cut down on meat. Recently, I binged on fried meat for a week. I just couldn’t stop eating it. The next thing I discovered was that my system became clogged and began to slow down, seemed like I carried a heavy load, with an uncomfortable feeling in my tummy like I was pregnant. I had to take lime water which dissolved the trash stored in my belly.

Take time to sleep. Sleep therapy can do wonders for your body.

Then also, you need to listen to your body. For those who are hyper-busy busy, a time will come when you need to slow down when your body will compel you to take compulsory bed rest. And if you don’t, you are heading for a breakdown.

As a storyteller, I have had this long-term dream to attend a film school where I can learn to produce my own films. An opportunity came when the Lagos state government invited me for an all-expense-paid training anchored by African Movie Academy.

I was excited and took up the opportunity. I never knew that the process will be so physically tasking.

After 3 days of attendance, I couldn’t rise from my bed on the 4th day

My entire system refused to cooperate with me. I ended up not going and had to rest for a few days to get my energy back. Then I knew that I needed the grace of God to help me finish the course.

And lastly, speak the word of God to your body. You will be amazed at how different your body will be after days and weeks of speaking. God promised that he will renew your strength like the eagles. I have found myself laying claim to that Scripture many times. and it sure works.
